SPORTS REPORTS

Lacrosse

This season we have been lucky to

welcome some great new players on

the field, more than filling the shoes of

the third year players we lost at the end

of last year. A few of our new members

had never played lacrosse before, but

they’ve massively impressed us with how

far they’ve come – our new goalie has

surprised many teams with her skills! The

first matches against Bath and Cardiff

were tough, but we soon came together

for strong wins against the University

of Gloucestershire and Aberystwyth

University. I’m hoping to see many of the

second years again next season, they

played such a strong part in the team that

we couldn’t have coped without them!

Hopefully next season we can work our

way up the league with our new captains,

even though we must say goodbye

to our lovely postgraduate players.

Rugby

On Friday 22 April, the Royal Agricultural

University 1st XV came face-to-face

with the Harper Adams University 2nd

XV, for the first time in seven years. It

was a fantastic match, and despite the

wind and the rain the RAU students

turned out in force to support the RAU

1st XV. Both teams gave it their all, and,

after a fiercely competitive match, the

HAU 2nd XV pulled away and claimed

the victory – with a final score of 31-40.

Here’s to the start of a new alliance,

and a happy relationship between

our rugby clubs and universities.

Polo

The polo club had a good start to the year

and gained a number of new members.

We’ve continued our partnership with

Inglesham Polo Centre, which has been

a huge success, and as a club we have

a lot to thank them for. We held two

tournaments at Inglesham, a beginner

and a novice tournament, which brought

success to the competing RAU teams. We

entered three teams into the SUPA arena

nationals this year, and had much success.

The 1st novice team placed third, coming

up against some strong university sides,

the 2nd team narrowly missed out on fifth

place, and the beginner team did very well,

only narrowly missing out on first place.

Overall a great success this year, rounded

off nicely with the brilliant May Ball polo.
