Cirencester
celebrates
HM The Queen’s
90th birthday
On Sunday 12 June, the University
celebrated HM The Queen’s 90th
birthday with a unique street party
event, attended by thousands of
people from the local community.
The RAU event mirrored the festivities
on the Mall in London. On the same
day, at the same time, the RAU
lined its iconic driveway with tables
and welcomed picnickers to use
the playing fields that flank it.
Entertainment included a parachute
display, a brass band, school displays,
the RAC Beagles parade, a police dog
display, fairground rides, a farmers’ market,
food and drink stalls, and much more.
RAU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chris
Gaskell, said: “We had a fantastic day
celebrating HM The Queen’s 90th birthday
party, and her committed patronage of
over 600 charities and organisations,
including of course the RAU. Nothing
could dampen our spirits, and despite
the rainy start we were delighted to
welcome so many members of the local
community to celebrate with us.”
The RAU received a contribution from
Cirencester Town Council towards
this event. The remaining 90% of
the cost was funded by private
sponsors and the University.
Proceeds will be donated to the
Gloucestershire branch of Wooden
Spoon, and the Watershed Riding
for the Disabled Association.
