Flora Amery and Harriet Mainds, first

year BSc (Hons) International Business

Management students studying Mandarin,

took part in the Chinese Culture Camp in

January 2016, organised by the Zhengzhou

University of Light Industry (ZZULI).

During the two week trip, they visited

a variety of cities and sites discovering

both modern and traditional China.

They started in Zhengzhou, where

they experienced Chinese language

and culture, and visited the Longmen

Grottoes and the Shaolin Temple; where

they were given a Kung Fu lesson.

Next they travelled by high speed railway

to Xi’an and visited the Terracotta Army

and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Finally,

they voyaged to Beijing, where they

climbed the Great Wall of China, visited

the Forbidden City and the Olympic village,

and toured around Hu Dong in rickshaws.

Flora and Harriet said: “We are truly

grateful to have been given this amazing

opportunity to practice our Mandarin and

learn about other cultures. A huge thank

you to ZZULI and staff at the RAU for

making this trip such a big success.”
