Award-winning
RAU Wheat Project
The RAU’s Wheat Project went down a
storm at the 2015 Big Feastival over the
August bank holiday, and was awarded The
Extra-Festival Activity Award at the Festival
Awards 2015. Shortlisted against some
incredibly innovative pieces of content from
the likes of Festival Number 6, Grillstock,
Standon Calling, and Latitude, this award
and recognition is a huge accolade.
In 2015, the University teamed up with two
other local Cotswold businesses, FWP
Matthew Millers of Chipping Norton and
Hobbs House Bakery of Chipping Sodbury,
to deliver the Wheat Project. The interactive
activity for families and festival-goers of
all ages taught children about the whole
bread-making process from grain to loaf.
Families picked ears of wheat and rye,
milled them into flour with FWP Matthew
Millers, and then made their very own
flatbreads with Hobbs House Bakery.
The Festival Awards recognise the
hard work, vision, and creativity of the
festival industry. The Extra-Festival
Activity Award celebrates the most
creative initiative on the festival circuit.
Jen Noble, Event Director for the Big
Feastival, said: “The Big Feastival is really
proud to have partnered with the RAU
to be the only UK festival growing its own
food to be eaten on-site through this
hands-on project, bringing to life the
concept of ‘grow your own’ for little
festival-goers.”
