The School of Equine Management
and Science (SEMS) has launched
an innovative new BSc (Hons)
degree in Bloodstock and
Performance Horse Management
for September 2016 entry.
Primarily for students with a keen
interest and career aspirations
in the thoroughbred and sports
horse industries, it will focus on
the challenges facing the modern
performance horse by studying
horse physiology, ethics and
production issues that challenge
high performance horses.
Professor Meriel Moore-Colyer,
Dean of SEMS, said: “This unique
BSc (Hons) degree, created in
consultation with the Thoroughbred
breeding and racing industry, will
produce the innovators of tomorrow.
It is a fantastic development for
SEMS, prospective students,
and the industry itself.”
Students will visit racing and
performance horse enterprises,
and complete a 20-week work
placement. It is this combination
of vocational and academic skills
which creates highly competent
graduates. With a proven track
record for graduate employability,
those who have previously

– The National Trainers Federation
Formed in 2014, research in SEMS
is of international importance.
Specialisms include equine
nutrition, genetics, and behaviour.
