LANDMARK 2016

The University was delighted to

welcome the cast and crew of BBC

One’s

Poldark

on campus in November

2015, to film for the second series.

The star-studded cast, including Aidan

Turner (Ross Poldark), Eleanor Tomlinson

(Demelza), Heida Reed (Elizabeth),

and Jack Farthing (George Warleggan)

descended upon the RAU Quad to film a

Cornish market place scene, complete with

markets stalls, vendors, and a local pub.

The popular Sunday evening drama,

which is set in Bodmin, Cornwall in the

1790s, hit the small screen in 2015

and captivated viewers with the volatile

relationship between the handsome Ross

Poldark and his fiery wife Demelza.

It pulled in an audience of more than six

million each week and is back due to

popular demand – so be sure to tune

in for the new series this autumn!

Delivering equine expertise

Simon Daniels, Lecturer in Equine Nutrition and Parasitology,

presented at The Pan African Symposium in March 2016, in

Zimbabwe, Africa.

The first of its kind in Africa, the symposium was organised by

Kylie Shepherd, Director of Equine Performance, and the theme

was the performance horse. Simon Daniels was invited to deliver

three sessions; two on equine nutrition for the performance

horse, and one on equine parasitology.

Simon said: “The event was a huge success. It was a pleasure to

work with the other presenters to provide a rounded approach to

performance horse management, especially as this approach has

not previously been undertaken in Africa.”
